What is PTFE

Definitions
 1)    PTFE  -PTFE (Poly tetra fluoro ethylene) non stick coatings are two - coat (primer / top coat) systems. These products have the highest operating temperature of any fluoropolymer
( 290oC /  550oC ), an extremely low co-efficient of friction, good  abrasion resistance and good chemical resistance.  PTFE is water base system.

2)   FEP  -FEP ( Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene copolymer ) non stick coatings melt & flow during backing to provide non porous films.  These coatings provide excellent chemical resistance.  In addition to low friction FEP coatings have excellent non stick properties.  Maximum use temperature is 205 o C / 400 o F FEP is water base system.

3)   PFA  -Like FEP, PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) non stick coatings melt and flow during baking to provide non process films.  PFA offers the additional benefits  of higher continuous use temperature  ( 260oC / 500o F ), film thickness up to 1000 micrometer  (40 mtrs)  and greater toughness than PTFE or FEP. This combination of properties make PFA an excellent choice for a wide variety of uses especially those involving chemical resistance.  PFA is a water base system.

4)   ETFC  -ETFC is a  co-polymer of Ethylene & Tetra-fluoro ethylene, and is also known as Tefzel.  Although not fully fluorinated, ETFE has excellent chemical resistance and can operate continuously at 150 o C / 300 o F.  This resin is the toughest of the fluoropolymers and can be applied at film builds up to  1000 microns (40 mtrs) to provide a highly durable finish.

5)   PTFE - one coat  -These solvent base liquid coatings are formulated with special blends of fluoropolymers &  other high performance resins to improve toughness & abrasion resistance,  because the film component stratify during baking, most of the fluoropolymer properties such as low friction & non stick characters are retained.  The resin provide adhesion & abrasion resistance.  These products can be applied to smooth clear metal.

6)   PTFE - S Dry Lubricant  -Dry lubricant coatings are special versions  of PTFE-S technology designed to provide lubrication under high pressure  / velocity (PV) conditions.  These are solvent base one coat systems.

7)   PTFE SF  -Soluble fluoropolymers, the newest of the fluoropolymer technologies which are uniquely different.  Dissolved in special per fluorocarbon solvents,  these coatings are designed for thin film applications, ranging less than 1 microns - 5 microns. Soluble fluoropolymer properties satisfy the need  for fluoropolymer properties where thicker films would interfere with the application's operation (such as on a circuit board.)
